O'Brien Cellars is owned by Bart and Barb O'Brien, who purchased the former Costello
winery from John Costello in March 2000. The winery was built in 1978 and is therfore
one of the earlier wineries (probably #40 out of 400) in Napa Valley. The winery is
unusual in that it is entirely self-contained, with everything required to turn
grapes into wine, including a bottling line.
We are open for tours and tastings by appointment.
The tour includes a stroll in our vineyards to discuss vineyard practices (we don't use any pesticides or
herbicides and all of the harvesting is done by hand) and a seated tasting of
our wines. As long as seasonal winery operations allow it, we also provide a tour of the winery with a discussion
of the role of barrels in winemaking (this is where we explain why we choose to purchase incredibly expensive French oak
barrels from specific forests in France rather than using the American oak barrels for 1/3 the price).
We love what we do and would love to share it with you.
