O'Brien Estate

We Welcome You!

Please come visit us for a tour of our estate and a tasting of our wines.  We are open Monday through Saturday from 10 am until 5 pm. We are open Sunday from 12 until 5 pm.

Please call or email in advance for an appointment.  This will ensure that your visit will exceed your expectations.  All of our tastings are seated either on our back lawn or inside the winery, depending on weather.

Our tours are casual and informal, yet sufficiently detailed about our specific methods of viticulture and winemaking to answer all the questions you may have about what makes our approach to winemaking unique.

We conduct a limited number of tours to ensure everyone has an outstanding experience.

Our Tour Experience

During your tour, we will describe how grapes are grown, pruned, and harvested in our vineyard.  Then we will move to the winery to describe the winemaking process, from crushing the grapes to aging them in French oak barrels.  Depending on the time of the year, you may be able to witness the actual crushing or bottling process and may be able to sample wine during the aging process from the barrel.

All of our current release wines will be poured for you during your tasting experience.

You may bring a picnic lunch with you to enjoy while tasting our wine and savoring our view over the vineyards and western hills.

Making a Tour Appointment

Please call (707) 252-8463 or email admin@obrienestate.com to schedule a tour.  On the weekends, please call (707) 332-3117 to reach Bart O'Brien directly.

Tours Offered

Tour and Tasting – a 60 minute tour and tasting experience. Our tour starts inside our winery bottling room, where you can see our crusher/de-stemmer, must pump, and bottling line while learning about the fundamentals of winemaking. Then you will visit the main fermentation and barrel storage room of our winery and learn about how wine is fermented in our 500 to 3,000 gallon stainless steel tanks and then aged in French oak barrels (each barrel costs $1,000 to $1,100 each). After the fermentation tour, you will then be taken outside to see our vineyards and finish your tour at one of our picnic tables overlooking the western hills and hundreds of acres of vineyards.

You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch. $15 per person; fee waved with the purchase of 1 bottle of wine per person.

Barrel and Reserve Tasting – in addition to our standard tour and tasting experience, you and your guests will have the opportunity to taste Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot directly from the barrels. To complete the experience, you will also taste our very limited Chardonnay Reserve (90 cases produced) and Unrestrained Reserve (100 cases produced).

$30 per person; fee waived with purchase of 3 bottles per person.

Blending Seminar and Custom Wine Bottling – want to be your own winemaker for a day? One of the key skills is to learn is how to blend wine where the result is better than the individual wines comprising the blend. O’Brien Estate is famous for our Seduction, Romance of the Heart, and Unrestrained Reserve Bordeaux Blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. During this seminar, you will have a private two hour experience with David Yorgensen, our winemaker, while he takes you through the elements of how to blend wine for an optimal taste profile. At the end of the seminar, you will be able to bottle yourself a bottle of the wine you custom blended on our in-house bottling line. Cost is $500 for 2 people; $150 for each additional person up to a maximum of 8 people.  Each person receives 1 bottle of their custom blend to take home with them; additional bottles may be purchased for $75 each.
